Shagang Old Residences

Attractions
Located on the northwestern side of Huxi Township, Shagang Old Residences sit on a peninsula, with its residents distributed across four settlements: Dingshe, Xiashe, Tudigongqian (Earth God Front) and Shuiku. The area's farmland is mostly concentrated in the southeastern section of the village. East, north and northwest sides are open to the sea with a large band of intertidal zone, making it an ideal locale for fishery. Outside of Magong City, Shagang is one of Penghu's most distinctive villages, uniquely formed from three settlements merged into a single administrative entity. These settlements include: Shagang (which encompasses Dingshe and Xiashe, Dingshe (also called Shagangtou)), Tudigongqian (Earth God Front), and Shuiku. One of Shagang's most notable features is its dense cluster of traditional coral stone houses (also known as keystone houses). It has the highest number of ancestral shrines among all villages in Huxi Township and is the only village in the township without a "Jiatou" (traditional village head) organization.
Among the Shagang Old Residences, the most unique is House No. 56, a four-wing courtyard residence constructed primarily with coral stone—a hallmark of traditional Penghu architecture. The entrance gate follows a Sanxianlou (Three Immortal Tower) design, a feature typical of official residences. Adjacent Houses No. 54 and No. 55 have undergone modifications over time, but when viewed together with House No. 56, they still offer a glimpse into the village's former grandeur.
Geographically, Shagang Village is located at the intersection of Dingwan Village and Zhongxi Village in Huxi Township. It shares its southwestern border with Dingwan Village, its southern border with Dongshi Village and faces the sea to the east and north. Across the water, it overlooks Xixi, Hongluo Village and Yuanbei Village in Baisha Township.
