Shanshui Wetland Park
Attractions
Shanshui Wetland, designated as an educational park, was awarded the highest honor at the 2012 FIABCI Real Estate Excellence Awards, receiving the Environmental (Rehabilitation/Conservation) Category Excellence Award.
At the park's entrance, the Penghu County Government has installed a stone monument engraved with the name "Shanshui Wetland Park." The wetland features many sand-fixing plants, including Ravan's Moustache, which resembles a sea urchin.
Located on the western side of Shanshui Village, the wetland covers approximately 1.7 hectares. Its design incorporates a gentle slope improvement along the western embankment, along with soil layering and vegetation planting on both sides of the embankment—an approach known as the invisible embankment concept. This technique seamlessly integrates the wetland areas inside and outside the embankment, creating a unified ecological and scenic zone that combines aquatic, wetland and terrestrial plant life.
Beyond the embankment, the wetland landscape extends into a vast coastal beach, which is a defining feature of Shanshui's wetland ecosystem. Each winter, the area attracts a diverse array of migratory birds that thrive in this wetland habitat. In addition to serving as a wildlife sanctuary, Shanshui Wetland Park offers walking trails, observation decks and scenic lookouts, making it an excellent spot for birdwatching, ocean views and sunset watching. The park is also connected to the Shanshui 30 Plateau Park, further enhancing its recreational appeal.
