Fenggui Blowholes
Attractions
Located on the southern tip of the Penghu Fenggui Island. It used to be known as the "Fengguewei (or Fenggu Tail)". It is famous for its well-developed columnar basalt formations, which, after centuries of relentless ocean erosion, have given rise to a narrow sea-eroded trench. At the base of this trench, the rock has been further carved into sea caves, with small openings at the top that connect to the caves' interior through natural fissures. When the tide rises and waves rush into the caves, the compressed air inside produces a deep, resonant "whoosh" sound, reminiscent of the bellows used in traditional forges. This phenomenon, known as "Fenggui Ocean Bellows(風櫃聽濤)," makes Fenggui Blowholes one of the best spots in Penghu to experience the mesmerizing sounds of the ocean. Against the backdrop of striking basalt formations, the cave offers breathtaking views, especially at sunrise or sunset, evoking a sense of poetic beauty.
Next to Fenggui Blowholes, a charming two-story pavilion shaped like a seashell provides an elevated vantage point, offering panoramic views of the ocean and a close-up look at the dramatic coastal terrain.
