Syujia Village and Color Murals

Attractions
Syujia Village is a traditional settlement in Penghu, known for its one main house with four wings architectural layout. The village is named after the Hsu family (Syu is pronounced the same as Hsu,) as most of its residents share this surname. The village features serene traditional three-section courtyard homes, some of which, known as Hsu Family Old Houses(許家古厝). It still preserves the traditional appearance of early architecture and old houses.

Residents have worked together to preserve the village's simple charm. Even today, visitors can see red ox carts and gray coral stone walls, blending history with daily life. In recent years, colorful murals have been painted on these stone walls, creating a striking contrast between traditional architecture and modern artistic expression.
Syujia Village is home to many stunning murals, each like a postcard of Penghu, showcasing the island's culture and history. Walking through the village, visitors can explore murals of different themes and styles. Since 2013, artists have gradually expanded and maintained the murals, ensuring they remain fresh and vibrant. Unlike mainstream tourist spots, Syujia Village offers a tranquil experience where visitors can immerse themselves in traditional simplicity and quiet beauty.

It is also the closest village to Magong City where one can observe well-preserved coral stone houses. The village boasts a broad coastline with shallow waters and vast intertidal zones and there is even a pavilion in front of the community activity center. Strolling through the narrow alleys of the old houses, visitors can appreciate the fusion of old and new artistic landscapes.
