Four Wonders on Candle Stand

Attractions
Departing from Magong, follow County Highway 203 toward Xiyu Township and you will find that the Four Wonders on Candle Stand is located between Chixi and Chima Villages, along the west coast of Chima Village and the southern shore of Chixi Village, near the wave-cut platform at Houziwei along the industrial road. The road leading to the site is a steep downhill path. As this area is private property, it remains relatively hidden.
Upon reaching the site from the downhill path, visitors will find a shaded rest area beneath tall trees, with wooden tables, stone benches, and breathtaking ocean views. From here, you can overlook Chima Beach and Nei'an Recreation Area Beach. During low tide, a large traditional stone weir can be seen on the right. This spot offers a peaceful yet stunning seascape.
A unique Guandi Temple stands here. Beyond the trees, visitors will find a metal-roofed house enclosing an old temple. Inside, Lord Wenchang, Lord Guan, and the Earth God are worshiped. The temple is famous for housing a legendary statue of Lord Guan, which is said to grow a beard. The walls display records of Lord Wenchang's birthday and news articles about the miraculous hair growth of the Lord Guan statue.
This statue of Lord Guan was reportedly salvaged from the sea. The landowner built the temple to enshrine it and cultivated a rare coastal garden, a sight seldom seen in Penghu. The temple remains open to the public, allowing visitors to experience the blessings of this sacred place. A stone stele on-site features a poem describing the Four Wonders: "White sand shines like silver along the bay, emerald waters drum against the shore, rugged reefs and temple shade the guests, the stone weir gathers treasures year-round." These "Four Wonders" refer to the beach, ocean waves, temple and stone weir. The name "Candle Stand" originates from the basalt columns in the intertidal zone, which resemble a candle holder when revealed at low tide.
