Niaoyu
Attractions
The residents of Niaoyu mostly rely on fishing for their livelihood, and the island offers a typical Penghu fishing village lifestyle.
Located next to the Niaoyu fishing port, visitors can enjoy a 180-degree wide natural sea view. On the eastern coast of Niaoyu, basalt columns stand tall. On the northern side, due to the northeast monsoon and seawater erosion, a spectacular view of weathered basalt onions and red gravel can be seen. The lowest layer consists of volcanic breccia, creating a magnificent and beautiful landscape. The eastern part of the island features columns of basalt, offering a completely different view compared to the northern coast. During low tide, the island connects to the southern Nanmiangua Islet, creating the unique "sea recession" phenomenon where the seabed is visible.
The area of Niaoyu fluctuates greatly between high and low tides. During high tide, it covers 0.265 square kilometers, but during low tide, it expands to 1.098 square kilometers, connecting with the northern Nanmiangua Islet. From the eastern tip of the island, extending northward to Nanmiangua Islet, west of Xiaobaisha Islet and south to Quzhua Islet, lies a vast sea-eroded platform, with typical skirt reef formations along its edges.
Pengpeng Beach, located on the southwest side of Niaoyu, is a new shoal formed from the sea north of Yuanbeiyu. This stretch of beach around 1,000 meters is now a very popular attraction to visitors.
