Qimei Niumuping
Attractions
Niumuping, located on Qimei Island, is known for its expansive grassy plateau atop the cliffs. It derives its name from a cow-shaped rock floating in the sea near the shoreline. Visitors can descend over 100–200 stone steps to reach the seashore, where they can enjoy up-close encounters with the ocean and explore the unique coastal landscape of Niumuping. Niumuping Bay is Taiwan's only gravel beach composed of three different rock types: basalt, sandstone and coral reef rock. With majestic basalt formations, the bay is a popular spot for swimming, snorkeling and fishing. Follow the stone steps down to the seaside and from a certain angle, it resembles a giant cow playfully splashing in the sea. The vast grasslands are not only a great place for locals to graze livestock but also a wonderful spot for camping. Here, you can fully immerse yourself in the expansive blue sky and the broad green fields, offering a truly relaxing experience. Little Taiwan is located beneath the cliffs of Niumuping, within one of the several platforms in Niumuping Bay. Composed of volcanic clastic rock layers, Little Taiwan is a sea-eroded platform that closely resembles a miniature version of Taiwan, making it quite a unique and interesting sight.
