Longmen Beach

Attractions
Longmen Beach is one of the eight ancient scenic spots in Penghu that refers to the sea area of the Longmen Shooting Range. The sea floor levels here varied significantly due to the densely covered reefs. When the waves enter the waters near Longmen, the waves and the terrain create a drum-like bang because the waves are blocked by the wave-cut platform terrain. Especially during the northeast monsoon in winter or during typhoons, with the beach facing east, the strong winds directly strike the area, intensifying the water's force. The waves fiercely hit the shore, and the sea roars with splashing waves. It feels like a battle between nature's forces and the terrain, with the powerful sound and sight striking the heart, like drum beats echoing in your mind. This is the unique landscape of Longmen Beach. In the "Eight Great Sights of Penghu" poem by the Penghu Jinshi (top scholar) Chai Tinglan, there is a line describing "the quiet night at Longmen, listening to the drum-like waves."

On clear days, you can get a distant view of the Chamuyu Lighthouse, located about 3.5 kilometers southeast of Lizhengjiao. Chamuyu, a small island, is at the extreme east of the Penghu archipelago. The island is composed of dense, dark basalt, with its joints appearing in a horizontal position, resembling a woman lying flat on the sea surface with distinct lines along her chest and abdomen. Chamuyu hosts a brick-built octagonal lighthouse, which started operations in 1913. The lighthouse features black-and-white vertical stripes on the exterior, stands 13.4 meters tall and the light is at a height of 24.7 meters. It uses a solar-powered fifth-class gas flashing light that flashes every six seconds with a luminous intensity of 1200 candela and a range of 9 nautical miles. This lighthouse is an important guide for ships traveling through the eastern waters of the Penghu archipelago.

On the shore, there's the Earth God Temple and the Fude ancient well. It is said that in 1983, a soldier stationed in Penghu found a drifting Earth God statue on the Lizhengjiao shore and built a simple structure to protect it from the wind and rain. In 1985, Lin Chengnan from Longmen Village initiated the construction of the Fude Temple(Earth God Temple) to house the Earth God statue. The Fude ancient well, though named after the temple, is believed to be even older, but its exact history is unknown as no written records exist. Further inland, on the flatlands near the shore, there's a large grassy area with four animal-shaped stone sculptures. These sculptures serve as seats for visitors to rest while enjoying the wind and waves. Upon closer inspection, you'll notice that the stone animals are all looking toward the same direction in the sky. It raises curiosity about what they might be gazing at.
Recommended Duration of Visit: 1 hour; Please be cautious when viewing the waves in winter to avoid danger.
