The 2026 Penghu International Fireworks Festival will feature "Dragon Ball Z" and the "Dragon Ball Z Penghu Summer Fireworks Festival".
The Penghu County Government has announced the event schedule for the 2026 Penghu International Fireworks Festival and revealed a major collaboration with the classic Japanese anime IP Dragon Ball Z, jointly presenting a brand-new theme titled “Dragon Ball Z: Penghu Summer Fireworks Festival.”
According to the County Government, the 2026 festival will significantly expand in scale and visibility by increasing the number of event dates and extending the overall duration. The festival will kick off with preview shows starting on April 20, officially open on May 4, and conclude on August 25, spanning more than four months.
The County Government emphasized that the Penghu International Fireworks Festival is one of Penghu’s most important tourism brand events. It serves not only as a key pillar of the annual tourism calendar but also delivers stable and substantial economic benefits to the local tourism industry. In addition to maintaining high-quality performances, the 2026 festival will align with evolving travel trends by adopting a “phased and market-segmented” promotional strategy.
From May to June, the festival will continue its role as a leading promotional event for the tourism season, with shows held every Monday and Thursday. From July to August, the festival will sustain fireworks momentum to stimulate travel during non-peak days, driving weekday tourism during the summer season and expanding overall tourism benefits.
The County Government further explained that two preview shows will be held on April 20 and April 27, each featuring a 10-minute fireworks display. The official festival period runs from May 4 to August 25. From May 4 to June 25, events will be held every Monday and Thursday, while from June 30 to August 25, events will take place every Tuesday. The main venue will be the Guanyinting Recreation Area in Magong City, Penghu.
Fireworks and drone light performances are scheduled to begin at 9:00 p.m. each evening. The opening ceremony on May 4 and the closing ceremony on August 25 will feature 12-minute fireworks shows accompanied by 10-minute drone light performances. All other dates will present 10-minute fireworks displays and 10-minute drone shows.
In addition, three outlying island shows (Jibei, Wang’an, and Qimei) and three local-area exclusive shows (Huxi, Baisha, and Xiyu) are planned. Detailed schedules for these special sessions will be announced separately. The festival will comprise a total of 33 event dates.
The County Government also highlighted that, in addition to continuing its high-standard fireworks and drone light performances, the 2026 festival will mark the first-ever collaboration with the globally renowned Japanese anime Dragon Ball Z. By integrating the passionate spirit of anime with fireworks artistry and lighting technology, the festival aims to create a summer celebration that delivers both visual impact and a strong thematic identity.
Throughout the festival, a variety of Dragon Ball Z–themed extended activities will be introduced, including interactive character photo zones, large-scale figurine displays, themed parks, and exclusive co-branded merchandise. These experiences will allow visitors to immerse themselves fully in the festival atmosphere while enhancing overall engagement and brand appeal.
Subject to weather conditions and aviation safety approvals, drone swarm performances will be arranged, with the first drone light show scheduled to debut at the opening event on May 4.
The County Government also announced that detailed performance schedules, outlying island events, related activities, collaboration themes, as well as transportation and travel arrangements for the 2026 Penghu International Fireworks Festival, will be released progressively. The public is encouraged to follow the official social media platforms “Penghu International Fireworks Festival” and “Penghu Travel” to stay updated with the latest information and join in welcoming the most anticipated summer fireworks event of 2026.
