Twin-Lakes Park

Attractions
Built by the military, Twin-Lakes Park was originally a low-lying wetland with natural springs. The land was developed into two artificial lakes—Kaiyuan Lake(開元湖) and Xiyuan Lake(惜源湖)—surrounded by paved trails, pavilions and lush greenery. Spanning 4 hectares, it was Penghu's first military-constructed lakefront park and transformed from wasteland into a popular leisure spot.
The Park is comprised of ponds, plants, trails, and recreational facilities. Not only does this area provide water storage, but the rich tidal wetlands are often a resting and fishing spot for migratory birds. This park has now become one of the best habitats for wintering migratory birds in Penghu County. On the east side of Twin-Lakes Park lies the Caiyuan Mausoleum(菜園納骨塔), the first county-built mausoleum in Penghu. The downstream outlet leads to the Caiyuan Wetland(菜園溼地) and the birdwatching area facing the wetland offers scenic views of Fenggui and Wude. The natural environment is beautifully preserved, making it an excellent location for birdwatching. The area is rich in ecology, with various bird species residing and foraging. It is the only important birdwatching area in the region and has been designated as a crucial wetland conservation area.
