Wai'an- Wenwang Temple

Attractions
Main Deity: Lord Wen
Festival Date: 8th Day of the 2nd Lunar Month
Wenwang Temple was originally built during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, enshrining Lord Wen of the Wen family along with various deities. In 1919, the main hall was reconstructed on its original site, and it underwent another major renovation in 1967. After decades of wear and disrepair, the temple was rebuilt again in 2003 and completed in November 2005.
In Penghu, the Lantern Festival is even more festive than the Lunar New Year, especially in Wai'an Village of Xiyu Township. During the three days of celebration, all fishing boats return to the harbor and light their brightest lamps. The shimmering reflections on the sea, combined with hundreds of illuminated boats lighting up the entire bay, create a stunning scene. The fishing lights of Wai'an and the sacred presence of Wenwang Temple complement each other, making this event a distinctive cultural highlight of Penghu in recent years.
