Mudou Island
Attractions
Mudou Island (Mudouyu) is located to the north of Jibeiyu and is renowned for the iconic Mudouyu Lighthouse. It is the northernmost inhabited island of the Penghu archipelago, and during the Japanese colonial period, it was also referred to as the “North Island.”
Covering an area of approximately 0.024 square kilometers, the island is formed from a basalt mesa and resembles a carpenter’s ink marker, traditionally called a “Modou” in Chinese. Because of this resemblance, early settlers named it “Modou Islet (墨斗嶼),” which later evolved phonetically into “Mudouyu.”
Recommended Duration of Visit: Dependent on tide schedules set by boat operators
