Tiantai Hill

Attractions
Tiantai Hill is the highest point on Wang'an Island and the third-highest peak in the Penghu archipelago. A wooden boardwalk leads visitors up the hill, with pavilions along the way providing shaded rest spots. Thanks to its strategic location, the summit offers sweeping panoramic views, making it the best vantage point for overlooking Wang'an Island and Huayu Islet.
Tiantai Hill is home to some of the oldest and most precious geological formations in Penghu, primarily composed of basalt. In the past, it was one of the main sources of aragonite in Wang'an. Beneath the western cliffs, visitors can admire spectacular basalt landscapes. Following the trail down to the western coast leads to a breathtaking 30-meter-high sea cave. The fine-grained, grayish porphyritic rock found here exhibits distinctive joint structures, forming the unique "jointed flower" pattern. This striking feature sets it apart from the columnar basalt formations found on Hujing and Tongpan Islets.
Tiantai Hill, made of basalt, lacks tall plants at its summit but is dotted with Indian blanket flowers. A leisurely walk on top is quite pleasant. Additionally, visitors can see a rock formation resembling a footprint, known as the "Xianjiaoshiyin (or Immortal's Footprint)," which is said to be the print of the legendary Lu Tungpin (Fuyou Dijun). This is also one of the island's famous landmarks.
