Green Turtle Tourism and Conservation Center
Attractions
Located next to Tanmen Harbor in Wang'an Township, the Green Turtle Tourism and Conservation Center is a sleekly designed building situated on the southeastern side of Wang'an. The center is well-equipped with excellent facilities and is divided into several sections: a green turtle introduction area, an ecology exhibit on turtles and human life, a seabird display area and an introduction to Nanhai tourism. At the entrance to the exhibition hall stands a special stone monument, the "Haoshantang Inscription." This inscription honors the local gentry of Wang'an, who raised funds to protect sea turtles and draft oxen. It outlines a system of financial rewards for those who show compassion for life, alongside severe penalties for violators, striking a balance between benevolence and authority. Today, this inscription serves as an important testament to the community's early efforts in sea turtle conservation.
Inside the center, visitors can immerse themselves in the natural ecology of Wang'an, with exhibits featuring tern species, conservation biology and more. The highlight is the green turtle exhibit, where guests can learn about the characteristics and habitats of various turtle species. The center also offers insights into folk activities related to turtles, such as the "Begging Turtle" tradition during the Lantern Festival, as well as marine ecology, history and culture. The primary purpose of the center is to provide facilities and resources for academic institutions to conduct research, making it an ideal research station for green turtle ecology in Wang'an. It also serves as a local ecological education center. The exhibits are designed to create an immersive experience, providing both emotional and intellectual educational environments. Through interactive models and exhibits, the center makes learning both engaging and enjoyable, achieving the goal of education through fun.
