Guoye Sunrise
Attractions
Guoye Sunrise is one of the renowned "Old Eight Scenic Spots" of Penghu. Guoye Village is on the dune slope on the northwest side where there is a yellow hibiscus forest, and yellow hibiscus tree is commonly called Guoye, hence the name. This Guoye forest remains lush and green throughout the year, bursting into full bloom with bright yellow flowers in spring and summer. Located on the eastern coast of Guoye Village, where the sea and sky merge into a vast horizon, it is one of the most renowned spots for watching the sunrise. From the elevated vantage point of the Sunrise Pavilion, visitors can enjoy the best view of the sunrise. On clear days with favorable weather, looking eastward toward the ocean, the red sun slowly emerges from behind Taiwan's Central Mountain Range. The sky transitions from deep black and gray to a glowing orange-red as the golden sun ascends from the Central Mountain Range. In an instant, the sun casts a shimmering path of golden light across the sea. The unique eroded coastal formations further enhance this spectacle—when the sunlight hits the jagged rocks, the reflections resemble scattered diamonds floating on the water. The entire seascape glows like a warrior clad in golden armor, charging forward on golden waves—a breathtaking sight that captivates all who witness it.
If the weather is exceptionally clear and cloudless at sunrise, the distant outline of Taiwan's Central Mountain Range can be seen in remarkable detail.
● Be sure to check the sunrise time and arrive 30 minutes to an hour in advance.
● When near the shoreline, be mindful of tides and submerged rocks.
Recommended Duration of Visit: 1.5 hours
