Kuibishan Recreation Area (Moses Parting the Sea)

Attractions
Nestled in Beiliao Village, Huxi Township, Kuibishan, also known as "Turtle Mountain," earned its current name due to its homophonic similarity to "Kuibishan." For centuries, the mountain has been famous for its "Starry Kuibi" view, making it a cherished part of Penghu's Eight Great Sights. It remains a popular spot for sunrise viewing and stargazing.

The Kuibishan Recreation Area is renowned for its geological features, including basalt rocks rich in peridot and coastal erosion formations. One highlight is the "Fanzaishi" (Fantzu Stone), a vast, irregularly shaped area of basaltic lava located about 1 kilometer southeast of Chi Islet. This rock formation, formed under extreme high-pressure and high-temperature conditions deep within the Earth's mantle, is affectionately known as "Fanzaishi" by locals. At low tide, an S-shaped gravel path connecting Kuibishan and Chi Islet is revealed, forming a rare land bridge between the two locations.

Visitors wishing to walk this path should be mindful of the tide schedule. As the tide rises, water slowly begins to rise from behind Chi Islet, gradually creeping over both ends of the islet and converging toward the path. If visitors fail to reach the shore in time, they may face life-threatening danger.

For safety reasons, access to the gravel path connecting the sea is restricted to designated hours. Visitors must comply with on-site regulations and follow the guidance of staff. The path is only open during specific times and the accessible area is limited to a 7.5-meter width on each side of the centerline. To protect the landscape, preserve the ecosystem and ensure visitor safety, climbing onto Chi Islet is prohibited.
To enhance the visitor experience, the recreation area features a tourist information station with useful details and assistance. The area also offers accessible amenities, including restrooms, a foot washing station and a pay parking lot.

Recommended Duration of Visit: 2.5 hours
● When walking in the tidal area, please follow on-site regulations and be mindful of tides and rocks.
● Help protect the intertidal ecosystem — do not collect stones or disturb marine life.
