Painted Oil Tanks at the Fisherman's Wharf
Attractions
Located at No.1 Fish Harbor, Magong City, Penghu, the painted oil tanks at Fisherman's Wharf are a scenic landmark developed by the county government in recent years. These tanks were originally fuel storage tanks for fishing boats at No.1 Fish Harbor but were transformed with paintings of Penghu's iconic sights. Illuminated at night, they have become a popular spot for photography and romantic strolls. One of the oil tanks facing the sea is adorned with the words "HI, PENGHU."
Next to the painted oil tanks, visitors will find a wooden boardwalk, pavilions, and seating areas, as well as an outdoor leisure corridor at No.1 Fish Harbor. This project is a collaboration between the Energy Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Penghu County Government, utilizing solar power to reduce carbon emissions. The initiative creates an eco-friendly and relaxing fishing port environment. Nearby the tanks, along the harbor, visitors can spot the Star of Gaillardia Island, a ship-shaped shopping complex featuring fresh seafood, processed seafood products and dining areas. With its unique architecture and well-equipped facilities, it has become a lively hub for both locals and tourists. On the other side of No.1 Fish Harbor stands the striking sculpture "Mother of the Ocean(海洋之母)." This infinity-shaped artwork, adorned with fish and ocean wave motifs, symbolizes the endless abundance of marine resources. The area is seamlessly connected, making it a perfect spot for evening strolls along the Fisherman's Wharf and Star of Gaillardia Island, where you can enjoy the harbor's night view while feeling the sea breeze.
To transform Magong's No.1 Fish Harbor into a tourism and recreation hub, the goal is to develop the harbor with diversified leisure and recreational functions, drawing international tourists to Magong and boosting the surrounding area's commercial and economic growth. In May 2016, the Argo Yacht Club signed a BOT agreement with the Penghu County Government to invest in building the "Penghu Argo Yacht Marina(澎湖‧亞果遊艇碼頭)." This initiative aims to establish the area as a key attraction in Magong, creating a magnetic effect that will shape Penghu as a symbol of one of the world's most beautiful bays. Since the Argo Yacht Club joined the project, the Fisherman's Wharf area has been revitalized, with the painted oil tanks adding a lively touch alongside the luxury yachts. Tourists now have more options to explore Penghu, with the new yacht tourism development that complements the region's natural landscape and oceanic advantages. This initiative introduces a refreshing and more internationalized leisure tourism culture to Penghu.
