Attractions
The Museum is located at the Matouwan in the south of Jibeiyu. It is established to preserve traditional stone weir culture. It is located on the east side of the Jibei Visitor Center(吉貝旅客服務中心). This is a community-run cultural museum, offering an alternative museum experience. The museum was established to collect and preserve the stone weir culture of Jibeiyu, while also promoting the ecological and scenic aspects of the stone weirs.
Stone weirs are a feature of coral reef fishing culture found throughout the Penghu archipelago. The weirs typically have a "catching room" for fish and "extended legs" to guide the fish, designed with a "curled tail" shape to allow fish to enter but not escape. These structures represent the wisdom of early fishermen.
Covering an area of about 30 ping (99.174㎡), the museum's exhibits are divided into static displays and multimedia presentations. The exhibits showcase more than a hundred tools used for farming, fishing and herding in early village life, including stone mills, large and small jars, and electric clay lamps. The walkway features wax figures of stone weir workers and rubbing scrolls, while the exhibition room displays the structure, construction and fishing methods of the stone weirs. Additionally, there is a guided tour service available on the hour, enhancing visitors' understanding and appreciation of traditional stone weir fishing.
