Qimei Da Shi Scenic Area
Attractions
The Qimei Da Shi Scenic Area is located by the seaside near the mountaintop settlement of Zhonghe Village. The coastal basalt formations are spectacular, with a continuous line of columnar basalt cliffs along the coastline. In the Da Shi Scenic Area, there is a massive basalt rock formation resembling a lion crouching in the sea, formed by the erosion of radial columnar basalt. Next to the lion rock is another striking geological feature, a block formed from volcanic gravel with noticeable folds, resulting from compression and showing a bent structure. Its shape resembles a giant dragon, twisting and rolling on the sea surface, earning it the name "Longcheng" (Laying Dragon). On this sea-eroded platform, various sizes of tofu rocks and over a hundred pot holes are found, making it one of the largest and most neatly arranged pot hole clusters in Penghu.
There is a viewing platform where you can enjoy views of the stone lion to the right and Longcheng to the left, taking in the ever-changing geological landscape. Several stalls and shops are located near the Da Shi Scenic Area, selling ice cream and local specialties. A path leads to different angles where you can view the stone lion and a staircase takes you to a viewpoint for a closer look at the stone lion and Longcheng.
1. Be careful not to lean too far over the viewing platform to avoid falling off the cliff.
2. When riding through the village roads, be aware that the alleys are narrow, and you should reduce speed. Additionally, the strong northeast monsoon can make it difficult to control your balance, so be cautious when riding.
