Originally established in 1969 as the Penghu Algae Seedling Cultivation Center(澎湖縣藻類種苗培育中心), the station initially focused on promoting the cultivation of purple laver in Penghu. In 1988, it was officially renamed the Marine Life Propagation Station, Penghu County. A major renovation was completed in 2011, introducing the Seedling Production and Marine Ecological Education Building(種苗生產暨海洋生態教育大樓) along with surrounding infrastructure. The first floor of the building serves as the seedling production area, while the second floor is designated for visitors and the third floor houses offices along with a scenic observation platform. The facility focuses on the breeding, cultivation and release of various marine species, including saltwater fish, shrimp, crabs, purple laver and abalone, with the goal of enhancing Penghu's aquatic resources and supporting the development of the county's aquaculture industry.
The Marine Life Propagation Station features a 108-meter-long visitor walkway on its second floor, which includes a coral planting area and an aquarium display zone. Open to the public and students, guided tours are provided, complete with explanations by the guides and brief introductions on the walkway. These tours aim to educate visitors about seedling cultivation, production and marine ecological conservation. Located on the west side of the Pongnan Shili Community Bay, the center has a viewing platform outside its third-floor office area, serving as a resting and viewing spot for visitors.
The Marine Life Propagation Station, Penghu County, oversees the hatching, cultivation and release of various aquatic seedlings. Currently, its ongoing breeding programs include:
