Magong Office, Kaohsiung Customs

Attractions
This building showcases an elegant Western-style architecture with a pure white exterior, reflecting the architectural style from the Japanese colonial period.
In 1905, the Japanese government built the Magong Customs office(馬公稅關辦公廳) at this site, under the jurisdiction of the Anping Customs(安平稅關).
The building features an arched porch, with square towers at the corners for observing Magong Harbor. The arched windows and European-style slanted roof reflect the European-inspired architecture that was popular among the Japanese at the time.
The main structure is built with brick and stone masonry, supported by load-bearing walls.
The roof has a slanted design, with black cement tiles. The porch is open, with a circular arch design, and serves as a window for external business transactions. The building is adorned with arched windows and keystone decorations. To strengthen the structure, slanted columns are added around the building, with spiral column head decorations.
The building's original front façade was made of washed stone, but after Taiwan's recovery, the exterior walls were repainted with cement.
This building can be considered one of the first official structures in the Japanese colonial period to adopt a Western-style architectural design.
Today, the Magong Customs office(馬公稅關辦公廳) is illuminated at night, and walking by, one can appreciate this elegant and pristine historic building.
