Penghu Reclamation Hall
► Go to Reservation
The Penghu Reclamation Hall was originally the official residence of the Penghu Magistrate during the Japanese colonial period and later served as the residence of the Penghu County Magistrate after Taiwan's retrocession. Completed on March 10, 1935, during the 10th year of the Showa era, it shares the same "Western-Japanese hybrid" architectural style as the Penghu County Government building. The structure is solid, the design elegant, and the surrounding garden tranquil. After being left unused due to aging in 1992, the county government restored the building in 1999, preserving its original architectural style and repurposing it as the Penghu Reclamation Hall. Today, it serves as the first stop for learning about Penghu, offering a cultural space for history, leisure and tourism.
Inside, the hall showcases historical artifacts and records of Penghu's development. The exhibits chronicle the hardships of early settlers, covering topics such as historical prologue, migration journeys, braving the Black Ditch, settlement expansion, wartime conflicts, political and economic growth, infrastructure development and literary works on Penghu. The hall spans 2,001 square meters (approximately 605 pings), with an indoor exhibition space of 320 square meters (approximately 97 pings). Its outdoor garden features nearly century-old banyan trees, towering Indian almond trees, and a variety of Penghu's native plants, providing a serene retreat.
