Penghu Ancient Post Office
Attractions
Located near Magong Harbor, a green building adorned with the Chunghwa Telecom blue emblem stands out. This building was originally the Penghu Second-Class Post Office(澎湖二等郵便局). It was constructed by the Japanese government in 1924 and was responsible for the postal services in Penghu at that time.
The Penghu Ancient Post Office was founded in the 13th year of the Taisho era (1924) and, after the separation of postal and telecommunication services in the 17th year of the Showa era (1942), was renamed "Penghu Post Office." In August of 1946, it merged with the telecommunications bureau to become the Penghu Post and Telecommunications Bureau(澎湖郵電局). By May 1949, postal and telecommunications services were separated again, and the name was changed to Penghu Post Office, continuing postal services while remaining in the same building as the telecommunications office.
The architecture reflects the "Western-style" trend of the time. The building is L-shaped, with the main entrance at the corner. It features a "two-sloped roof" design, while the entrance has an angular roof and is covered with cement tiles in a Japanese style.
