Duxing 10th Village Military Dependents' Village Cultural Preservation Area
Attractions
Duxing 10th Village was originally the site of the Penghu Island Fortress Command(澎湖島要塞司令部) and the Magong Heavy Artillery Battalion(馬公重砲兵大隊) officers' quarters during the Japanese colonial period. After World War II, it was taken over by the Nationalist Government and repurposed as the officer's quarters for the Penghu Defense Command, subsequently being named "Duxing 10th Village."
In 2006, after the military dependents' families relocated, the village was transformed into the "Duxing 10th Village Military Dependents' Village Cultural Preservation Area" to preserve the unique cultural heritage of the village and its surrounding natural landscape. Today, the surrounding buildings and streets have been restored and redeveloped, with designated areas for scenic views and shops. Several spots feature mural walls and nostalgic furniture, such as old chairs, bicycles and scooters, which have turned into popular photo opportunities.
Visitors can experience staying in the historic military dependents' housing overnight and the area regularly hosts cultural and artistic events aligned with local festivals, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the life and atmosphere of the former military village.
Notable figures who once lived in Duxing 10th Village include Pan Anbang, the famous singer of the song "Grandma's Penghu Bay" and Zhang Yusheng, a talented singer-songwriter. Both grew up in the village, and their former residences have been converted into exhibition spaces: the "Zhang Yu-Sheng Museum" and the "Pan Anbang Memorial Hall," adding to the village's rich cultural heritage.
